Onboarding in an Online Environment (OBOE)

From the research conducted as part of this Phase I project we have identified a number of best practices relating to the Onboarding of new employees into an organisation and ensuring they are providing value to the business as quickly as possible, as well as feeling confident and comfortable in their new role.

While many new recruits are onboarded online with a view to eventually being physically present in the workplace, many employees will continue to work remotely throughout the tenure of their employment. In order to apply best practices to both situations, we are conducting further research with our Research Working Group in Phase II of this project to identify how and why the online onboarding process may be improved and what are the best practices in this case.

There are a wide range of tools and technologies available to companies with which they can facilitate an engaging and effective online onboarding process, The purpose of the next phase(s) of this project is to identify how companies can make best use of these tools and approaches to provide the best possible onboarding experience to a new employee, while also retaining the information required by the company to ensure the overall process is streamlined and effective. We will also look to identify if a new and innovative solution is required in this space.
