Maurice Boland is Head of Digital Policy for Schools in the Department of Education & Youth, where he leads implementation of Ireland’s Digital Strategy for Schools to 2027. He has national policy responsibility for digital education in schools, AI in education, online safety and digital citizenship, and oversees public investment in school digital infrastructure, including the Schools Broadband Programme.
Maurice led the development of Ireland’s first national Guidance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Schools and established the first National AI in Schools External Advisory Taskforce. He provides strategic oversight of Oide Technology in Education, which promotes the effective use of digital technologies in learning, teaching and assessment in primary and post-primary schools.
Prior to joining the Department, Maurice worked in Ireland’s higher education sector in digital learning, including a Senior Lecturer role in Digital Skills and leadership roles in virtual learning environments.
