About the job
The Cliste project intends to develop systems that leverage evidence-based research to help teachers create assessments at targeted difficulty levels, delivering individualised feedback to students, generating insights to inform practice, improving learning outcomes and reducing division between students who can afford outside help and those who can’t.
The project is funded through Enterprise Ireland’s Commercialisation Fund and will develop, test and refine a commercially viable solution. The intention is to create a startup company at the end of the project to bring the solution to market.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for a candidate with deep knowledge of natural language processing and machine learning who will demonstrate the requirements for the role as outlined below and must satisfy all of the essential criteria.
Standard duties and responsibilities of the post
- Reporting to the Principal Investigator, work as part of a multidisciplinary team of edtech innovators, technologists and user experience experts
- Work closely with the Technology Lead to develop and implement the Cliste technology
- Participate in research and development of a novel architecture for generative AI, synthesizing extant LLM outputs with human evaluations
- Participate in research and development necessary to producing language models
- Engage in peer-reviewed dissemination of research results
- Collaborate with developers constructing a cloud-based infrastructure to support the development, testing and deployment of Cliste

Completed PhD in computational linguistics
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Natural language generation
- Machine learning for text classification
- Excellence in research (i.e. literature review, synthesis, programming, data analysis, scholarly writing) without support of generative artificial intelligence
- Expertise in natural language syntax, semantics and stylistics
Desirable
- Demonstrable experience in peer-reviewed publication of research
- 2 or more year’s post-doctoral experience in research
- Software system component integrations
- Experience of working in an agile environment and adapt to change
Skills and competencies

- Demonstrable experience working as a researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis
- Demonstrate a desire to work with a high degree of autonomy in a start-up type environment.
- Demonstrate a learning and growth-focused mindset and a strong desire to share your skills and learn from those around you
