Summary
Candidates are invited to apply for the position of K-12 Pedagogy Researcher in the Learning Science team within the Learnovate Centre. The function of the role is to provide support to Learnovate Centre research projects focused on learners in the K-12/schools space. The work will be conducted in collaboration with a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research team with the aim of developing innovative next-generation learning technology which demonstrates real benefits for school age learners. Learnovate research is industry-led and you will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects in a collaborative team, ranging from short paid for industry research to longer core and EU funded projects.
Team: The successful candidate will be joining the Learning Science team, within a research centre that has core capabilities in User Design and Experience, Technology, and Innovation Services.
Principal Duties:
- Participate in defining the K-12 pedagogical strategy for the Centre
- Recommend topics for K-12 research projects
- Building and maintaining relationships with a wide cross-section of schools with a view to including them in the research agenda
- Ensuring the Centres range of research projects demonstrate real learning innovation through:
- Identifying ‘real-world’ learning challenges from the K-12 space
- Defining and implementing a pedagogical strategy that addresses ‘real world’ challenges in a way that takes account of the learners’ context
- Creating relevant use cases primarily focusing on K-12 school learning contexts
- Providing pedagogical expertise
- Conducting in-person and virtual workshops in the course of research projects
- Works closely with industry partners to produce research outputs that deliver real value to the partner
- Presenting/reviewing research projects with industry partners
- Preparing and writing research and evaluation reports for both academic and non-academic audiences
- Carrying out other pedagogical tasks which may be assigned
- Representing Learnovate at conferences and events as required by PI
Key Requirements:
Qualifications
- Masters level qualification in the Learning Science or Education field
- 6 years K12/School experience
Experience
- Experience of classroom teaching at either Primary or Post-primary level (essential)
- Experience with learning technology deployment and use in classroom setting (essential)
- Experience in designing technology-enhanced learning environments (essential)
- Experience of curriculum/ course design (essential)
- Experience in assessment design (of and for learning) (essential)
- Experience working in a research-driven working environment
- Experience of conducting end user trial and analysing
Skills
- Demonstrable experience in the production of clear and concise reports, for a range of audiences (essential)
- Proven ability to prioritise own workload and work to exacting deadlines
- Adaptive to an agile work environment
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams
- Familiarity with Design Thinking and innovation processes (desirable)
