The Purpose of the Role

The Learnovate Technology Centre, hosted by Trinity College Dublin, is seeking to appoint a Head of Global Strategy & Development with primary responsibility for the development and delivery of collaborative research initiatives with companies of all sizes both in Ireland and internationally. The purpose of the role is to drive the new revenues that underpin the research mission to deliver industry-led, sustainable solutions to the world’s global Future of Work and Learning challenges. Learnovate has significant growth plans over the next 5 years including increasing membership by 90%, delivering quantifiable economic impact to Ireland to the value of €50M by 2026 and €100M by 2031 and growing industry and competitive funding contributions of €12.5M.

The post, reporting to the Centre Director will have responsibility for the strategic development and execution of an Industry Engagement Strategy to deliver research projects in collaboration with leading industry partners and KPIs. A key objective for the Centre, and wider University, is to forge and expand industry partnership and participation with the research programme. The Head of Global Strategy & Development  will grow and leverage the membership to:

  • Drive engagement of C-Suite national and multinational companies to deliver revenue targets
  • Develop new engagement initiatives to cross collaborate across the TCD research and Technology Transfer environments
  • Manage the development of this innovative membership programme on a day-to-day basis and deliver against quarterly targets

The Head of Global Strategy & Development will have specific responsibility for instigating new activities, devising new policies and managing the Centre’s cash metric performance and informing future actions and directives at a Senior Management level.

The post holder will be responsible for the Research Commercialisation function of the Centre, with the Commercialisation Manager and ancillary staff reporting directly to them. They will ensure the Research Commercialisation Strategy and Industry Engagement Strategy strongly align to ensure the delivery of Research Commercialisation target and develop Industry Partnerships to deliver Innovation Project Partnerships (IPPs) & Commercialisation Funds

Context

Learnovate is a part of the 8 strong national Enterprise Ireland and IDA Technology Centres programme.  It is Trinity College Dublin’s only Industry-Led research centre, providing a unique ecosystem for collaboration, allowing large multinationals, indigenous SMEs and start-up companies to work in partnership with academic researchers through topics identified as being strategically important by industry. A key objective is the generation of innovative technologies and frameworks leading to job creation, and generating Economic Value Add (EVA) from investment that will achieve 304 attributable jobs, increase of 46M in turnover for collaborating partners and 20+ companies reporting additional impact (new markets gained, risk reduction, digital transformation) by 2025.

Our purpose is to support and enable organisations to unlock the transformative power of learning using applied research, innovative practices and technology.  In order to achieve this ambitious vision, mission and KPIs a Head of Global Strategy & Development is required to take on the responsibility for the overall leadership and management of our income strategy and membership engagement across the organisation.

The Head of Global Strategy & Development will ensure effective communication with C-Suite representatives of some of Ireland’s largest multinational global organisations,  Secretary Generals of key Government Departments, large Professional and Research Performing Organisations both nationally and internationally to increase the Impact of the Centre and drive growth through ambitious research income targets.

The Head of Global Strategy & Development will be part of the Senior Management Team and be required to deliver a strong recurring revenue model for the on-going growth and development of the Centre. Working closely with the Centre Director, they will ensure alignment of research and industry engagement activities to and deliver the successful performance of the Centre in the delivery of high-quality, innovative, edTech industry-led research. This will include the strategic development of opportunities with our current 46 partners across 19 European countries and 68 industry members, and the commercialisation opportunities from 40+ research projects

Learnovate seeks an individual with the interpersonal and business development skills to deliver this major growth strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to be  involved in the success of Irish industries on a world stage through the application of applied research in the field of Learning. This role reports directly to the Centre Director.
