K12 Pedagogy Researcher

Helena joined the Learning Science Team as K12 Pedagogy Researcher. She is passionate about pedagogy and designing courses through the lens of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Following years teaching in Japan and Italy, she taught in the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme in Rome, Monza/ Milan where inquiry-based, transdisciplinary teaching and learning ignited a passion within her. Experience of leading literacy over three sites within ISM, she facilitated the core focus of creating balance and inquiry in the literacy programme. There she gained valuable experience as part of the team undergoing the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Accreditation. Returning to Ireland as classroom teacher and literacy lead 16 years ago, her most recent role involved setting up a new department, creating curriculum content for Religious Literacy, Ethics and Philosophy Studies (REPS), influenced by the UDL framework and with an active aim to increase learner agency. There, Helena was an active member of the Drive Team in modelling, supporting and promoting High Performance Learning (HPL) as part of a World Class School Accreditation process.

She is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Education: Diversity and Inclusion from Trinity College Dublin and holds a Postgraduate Higher Diploma in Education from Trinity College and BA from Dublin City University (DCU).
