Salary: Appointment will be made on Irish Universities Association scale at a point in line with Government Pay Policy, appointment will be made no higher than PD1, point 1 (€45,847)
Hours of Work:9am – 5pm, blended working
Closing Date: 12 Noon (Irish Standard Time), 9th February 2025
Indicative start date for post – April 2025

Post Summary

The “Cliste” project intends to develop systems that leverage evidence-based research to help teachers create assessments at targeted difficulty levels, delivering individualised feedback to students, generating insights to inform practice, improving learning outcomes and reducing division between students who can afford outside help and those who can’t.

The project is funded through Enterprise Ireland’s Commercialisation Fund and will develop, test and refine a commercially viable solution.  The intention is to create a startup company at the end of the project to bring the solution to market.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a talented, driven developer and aspiring software architect to join our growing team who will demonstrate the requirements for the role as outlined below and must satisfy all of the essential criteria.

Standard duties and Responsibilities of the Post

  • Reporting to the Principal Investigator, work as part of a multidisciplinary team of edtech innovators, researchers, technologists and user experience experts
  • Work closely with the Technology Lead to develop and implement the Cliste technology
  • Actively develop end user applications and backend technologies that have a real impact on future educational student learning outcomes
  • Help to manage and maintain cloud-based infrastructure to support the development, testing and deployment of Cliste

Person Requirements

Qualifications

Degree in computer science, technology or related field

Knowledge & Experience (Essential & Desirable)

3-5 years of professional experience as a developer (desirable),

  • Have experience building:
    • web based tools using Javascript (REACT, Angular) (essential)
    • backend development and APIs using Javascript (Express.js, Loopback) or similar backend technologies (essential)
    • relational and NoSQL databases using MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc. (essential)
  • Experience of working in an agile environment and adapting to change (desirable)

Skills & Competencies

  • Demonstrable experience working across frontend, backend and infrastructure management (dev/ops)
  • Demonstrate a desire to work in a startup type environment with a broad scope of ownership and high degree of autonomy.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse groups: entrepreneurs, managers, potential users, scientists.
  • Have familiarity with:
    • version control tools such as git and Gitlab, Github, etc.
    • built automation / continuous integration tools such as Jenkins
    • containerization concepts and technologies such as Docker
    • cloud computing environments such as AWS
    • API development and testing tools such as Postman, Insomnia, Swagger, etc.
    • applying data analysis and AI to practical technology solutions
    • Machine Learning, Python, NLP
  • Show an understanding of:
    • Service oriented architecture
    • RESTful APIs
    • Unit and functional testing
  • Demonstrate a learning and growth-focused mindset and a strong desire to share your skills and learn from those around you
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal English proficiency
