The iGBL 2013 Symposium was held at DIT, Aungier Street in Dublin on the 6th and 7th June. The Irish Symposium on Game Based Learning provides a forum for practitioners and researchers to disseminate research and best practices in the use of games and gamification for enhancing teaching and learning. The symposium proved to be an interesting mix of talks and workshops covering research in the primary, secondary, higher-education, corporate, and vocational sectors.
Interest in game-based learning is clearly growing and extending beyond traditional educational settings as was evidenced by the number of companies attending what is largely an academic conference.
The Centre had two presentations at the event, both based on our research reports on the topic. Lynda Donovan presented on The Use of Serious Games in the Corporate Sector, whilst Neil Peirce presented on his research on Digital Game-based Learning for Early Childhood.
