The Learnovate Centre is delighted to announce the launch of our new podcast, Inside Learning, which is available from today, Thursday, 8 April 2021.
Inside Learning will explore the power of learning to unlock human potential and is hosted by author, speaker, coach and broadcaster Aidan McCullen.
Aidan will regularly interview global experts in the science of learning and the future of work to educate, entertain and inform us all on the power of learning.
Our first guest is Professor Edward D. Hess who is a global expert on organisational and human high performance and focuses on growth, innovation and learning cultures.

During the interview, Ed — who is the author of Hyper-Learning: How to Adapt to the Speed of Change — speaks to Aidan about how to adapt to the speed of change.
Ed introduces us to the shift from ‘old smart’ to ‘new smart’. In a digital age, he says, we can no longer obsess about how much we know but rather we need to rewire ourselves to excel in not knowing.
“Instead of showing the world how smart I am, I need to ask questions and defer my judgement and be open minded and constantly test my ideas. Mistakes and failures are opportunities to learn,” Ed says.
“Our ego is invested in knowing more than other people and knowing all the answers to the questions. We need to rewire our ego as that game won’t work in the digital age. Technology will always be much smarter than us. If we are playing the old smart game, we will lose.”
Edward D. Hess is Professor of Business Administration, Batten Fellow and Batten Executive-in-Residence at the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. Professor Hess spent twenty years in the business world as a Senior Executive and has spent the last 18 years in academia. He is the author of 13 books and over 140 articles and 60 Darden Case studies.
