The Learnovation Summit is organised by the Learnovate Centre, a leading learning technology research centre in Trinity College Dublin funded by Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland. The Learnovate Centre supports organisations in developing solutions for our society’s current and future learning challenges.
Learnovation 2022 Speakers
Jane Ross
From meetings, chat, phone, and webinars to conference room systems and online events, Jane has always had a passion for technology having worked in technology since 1992. However, as an engineer by trade she has the unique ability to take complex subjects and make it accessible to everyone.
Stella Collins
Known as the “Brain Lady”, Stella Collins is co-founder and Chief Learning Officer at Stellar Labs and an evangelist for effective learning led by people and fuelled by neuroscience. She and her team build performance focused solutions, including innovative learning technology, by blending science, data and technology to deliver results and ROI.
Frances Kleven
Frances Kleven manages LearnUpon’s Customer Success team. With over 15 years of experience in technology and education, she has worked with some of the world’s biggest organizations, helping them to develop and implement comprehensive training strategies.
Rachel Phillips
Rachel Phillips, PhD, is a learning scientist who leads research and evaluation efforts for the OER Project, as well as develops curriculum for their courses. She is elementary certified, has taught in K–12 schools, and currently serves as an adjunct professor for graduate courses in American University’s School of Education.
Dr Nigel Paine
With over 25 years of experience in corporate learning, Nigel is a regular speaker, writer and broadcaster on the topics of development, technology and leadership. Between 2002 and 2006 he headed up the BBC’s Learning and Development operation.
Dr Jennifer O’Sullivan
Dr Jennifer O’Sullivan is a lecturer in literacy education at Marino Institute of Education. She is past president of the Literacy Association of Ireland and received a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2022 to research at the Florida Centre for Reading Research in Florida State University.
John Fallon
John is a product marketing leader with over 20 years’ experience in bringing innovative technology to market. His work across varied sectors and technologies allows him to translate complex technical concepts and capabilities into clear business outcomes.
Dr Joanne Banks
Dr Joanne Banks is a lecturer and researcher in inclusive education at the School of Education in Trinity College Dublin. Joanne’s research interests are in the field of inclusive education and educational inequality.
Peter Gillis
Peter is an experienced team lead, skilled in the practices of: innovation (JTBD, Lean Startup, Design Thinking), digital strategy, and strategy and corporate company management. eter is also a researcher with a demonstrated history of working in the EdTech research industry. He lectures on the psychology of learning on several masters programmes.
Niall Campion
Niall Campion is a founder & Managing Director of VRAI where he is on a mission to use virtual reality technology to bring immersive simulation training to dangerous operational environments.
Janet Benson
Janet has over 15 years of industry experience in a variety of roles from learning design to education manager. She holds a MSc. in Digital Education from the University of Edinburgh with her dissertation focusing on game-based learning in the workplace.
Mike Stevens
Mike is the Head of Learning Design at Aurion Learning. A creative and innovative learning specialist with over 20 years of experience in the creation of high-quality digital learning.
Nessa McEniff
Nessa believes in the power of learning to change lives and has had a long and varied career in learning technology. Starting out as a programmer, she has worked almost exclusively in the EdTech sector, including roles such as COO of Touch Press (StoryToys) and VP of Program Management & Strategic Initiatives at HMH, culminating in her role as Centre Director of Learnovate.
Leonard Hobbs
Leonard graduated from University College Cork in 1986 with a 1st class honours degree in Electrical Engineering and was awarded the title of ‘graduate of the year’ by the college. He completed a Masters degree at the NMRC (now called Tyndall), at UCC in 1988.
Dr. Ann Devitt
Dr. Ann Devitt is Associate Professor of Language Education at the School of Education. She is the Academic Director of The Learnovate Centre and has extensive research experience in both academia and industry. Having worked in the language and speech technology industries for a number of years in Europe, she returned to academia to complete a PhD in computational linguistics.
Jonny Parkes
Jonny has over 25 years’ experience in digital learning and is Chairperson of the Learnovate Centre. As the CEO of Electric Paper between 1996-2006, Jonny successfully built and exited the business to ThirdForce PLC which was subsequently acquired by Skillsoft.
Frank O’Reilly
Frank joined the Learnovate team with over 20 years experience in corporate learning and development, project management and business analysis. He has worked in a range of industries both in Ireland and France for companies as diverse as Arjo Wiggins Teape, Pizza Hut and Burberry.
Ilse White
Ilse is a Corporate Learning Researcher with Learnovate since February 2021. Prior to Learnovate she spent 15 years working on the People Development team in Google where she gained extensive experience in learning design, learning strategy & program management
Dr Richard Harte
Richard is on the Innovation Services team at Learnovate, and has worked on projects that cover a wide range of topics, including transversal skills, immersive learning, xAPIs, personalisation and gamification.
Christy Flis
Christy Flis has been with Zoom 7+ years and is Head of Global Education & Head of Women at Zoom. After building the education vertical, as well as leading success in Higher Education in the US/Canada, Christy now brings her expertise to lead education expansion across the globe.
Bilal Ahmad
Bilal is a Postdoctoral Researcher / Technology Lead for Software Solutions in Edtech at the Learnovate Centre at Trinity College Dublin. His key areas of research are at the intersection of Software Engineering and Human-Computer Interaction i.e., Edtech, Smart Ageing, UX Research and Global Software Development, augmented with development of software.
Dr Patricia McCarthy
Dr Patricia McCarthy graduated with a PhD from Trinity College Dublin in 2014. Her thesis focused on the educational experiences and transition opportunities of vision impaired/blind young people.
Aaron Mckenna
Aaron is Managing Director of the UCD Professional Academy, a unit of UCD delivering short courses for workforce upskilling. McKenna founded the academy in late 2019, and it has gone on to enroll more than 17,000 students and build relationships with over 500 corporate clients in the following 2.5 years.
Sinéad Murnane
Sinéad is the Product Manager for the Mastercard Learning Lab, a client learning platform that offers privileged access to inspirational and instructional content across industry trends, innovation and product leadership.

Lindsey Coode
Lindsey is Learning Pool’s Head of Innovation and leads Learning Pool Labs, their evidence-based research and ideas hub that seeks to create innovative learning products and maximise the potential of people and their organisations.
Peter Baxter
Peter is an experienced educator, experienced in designing, and facilitating creative arts, music and digital multi-media workshops, projects and e-learning courses for teachers and students.
Dr Amelia Kelly
Dr. Amelia Kelly is an artificial intelligence engineer and scientist specialising in automatic speech recognition of children’s voices.
Conor Gaffney
Conor Gaffney is Chief Product Officer of ETU. He leads the product team working with customers and the internal engineering team to map the product and solution roadmaps for the business.
Mariah Walton
Mariah Walton manages LearnUpon’s Data team, which uses analysis, modeling, and data infrastructure to make insights available to decision makers across LearnUpon’s entire business.
Pauline Rebourgeon
Pauline is the Head of Learning Technology and Innovation at Ericsson. She’s currently driving the learning innovation agenda, leveraging cutting-edge technology to create innovative and impactful learning experiences across all business areas.
